The shop, in the historical center of Venice
A warm welcome by il Salotto delle Maschere's owners, Alberto
e Gabriele, enthusiastic heirs of one of the most renown Venetian traditions: papier-maché masks making and hand-decoration.
Their shop is located in Lista di Spagna, Venice (Italy) - not far from the railway station called Venezia Santa Lucia. Its name means "the masks' living room" and it is a masks making studio: its Damasco wall paper and the furniture recall the charm of a past you may imagine to touch... The masks are cheerfully decorated with varying patterns, colours, textures, gold or silver leaf.
They are professionals with the gift for fantasy: the fabrics, the macramé laces and the feathers enliven their unique products, different from one another, according to the inspiration of the moment.
All decorations are hand-made; you'll be surprised by the big masks painted as copies of some famous paintings from the past (such as the piazza San Marco by Canaletto), with the intense colours of oil painting, in opposition with the delicate watercolor painted baute (you'll also find the traditional black and white baute, and the big "bautone Casanova").
There are masks to be worn and others to be hung to the wall: always to be admired. Alberto's and Gabriele's suggestions will prove precious for your best choice: a present or a souvenir from Venice, which is always fashionable.
This website was born to let you buy a selection of the objects on sale in the Venetian Salotto delle Maschere: all masks are created with love and passion for details.
